Jerry Van Winkle is a clinical psychologist practicing in Kearney. As a native of small town Nebraska, he continues to embrace many of the values he learned in his youth. Currently on his third career, Dr. Van Winkle has always had a place in his heart for nonprofit and service related endeavors. After working with abused children and their families for many years, he turned to a brief sales career before finally taking the plunge and doing what he most loves — clinical psychology.
Not surprisingly, his psychology career began at a community mental health center where he held both clinical and administrative roles. Since that initial position, Dr. Van Winkle has practiced in inpatient and outpatient settings, providing treatment and evaluation services for a broad range of ages and clinical problems. He was a supervising psychologist in an APA approved internship program and thoroughly enjoys contributing to the professional development of young psychologists and mental health professionals. He is particularly interested in program development and previously helped develop a sex offender treatment program at the Norfolk Regional Center.
Currently, he is the Program Director at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Kearney, Nebraska where his leadership in developing new programs is a primary focus. In addition to his position at YRTC-K, Dr. Van Winkle maintains a private practice in Kearney providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations. In addition to his clinical, administrative and supervisory roles, he serves as a Board member for the Nebraska Board of Psychology, and is one of the original members of the Board of Directors for the HelpCare Clinic, a recently developed free health clinic providing medical and behavioral health services to uninsured individuals and families in Buffalo and Kearny counties. His non-work hours are delightfully filled by time spent with his wife, two teenage daughters and two small pooches.
