NPA April, 2025 Member Spotlight

Kyle Greenman, PhD

Kyle Greenman,  PhD

How long have you been a member of NPA?

I am pleased to have just passed my one-year anniversary as an NPA member!

Why did you join?

As a second-year neuropsychology fellow at UNMC, I have been actively looking to build connections with the psychology community in Nebraska and support the mental health community in my new home state. Since joining I have greatly appreciated the camaraderie, learning opportunities, and advocacy NPA provides.   As a member I have attended continuing education events, meetings, and made career connections through individual members and classified ad postings.

Do you now, or have you previously volunteered with NPA?

I am currently actively engaged with NPA’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and closely follow Legislative and Advocacy Affairs events as continue to establish my professional life in Nebraska.

Tell us about your path to becoming a psychologist.

My pursuit of psychology started later in life and has taken many twists and turns.  Before becoming a psychologist, I received a full scholarship as a cello performance major and have studied and performed with several internationally known musical groups.  I also owned and managed several businesses.

However, my personal and professional goals changed following the birth of my daughter and later discovery that she had profound bilateral hearing loss.  My families challenges and frustrations associated with securing appropriate care, education, and support for my daughter led me to return to school and pursue a new path as a psychologist to support individuals and families with developmental and neurological differences.

I attended Palo Alto University in northern California.  I completed neuropsychology practicum at Palo Alto VA and the University of California San Francisco.  I also received training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, substance use treatment, family therapy, and group treatment at low-cost community clinics with a diverse mix of clients.  My internship was in a community medical system with a mix of neuropsychological evaluation and health psychology supporting patients with challenging, complex medical conditions.  As my formal training comes to a close at UNMC, I am so grateful for the diversity of populations, opportunities, and approaches I have experienced.  Moving forward I hope that I can pay my experiences forward supporting colleagues, trainees, clients, and patients.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working? Any fun hobbies/interests?

My family and I enjoy our life here in Omaha.  We like to travel and are rollercoaster enthusiasts often visiting remote theme parks to savor local fried foods, flip upside down, and buy tacky souvenirs.   When weather and schedules make travel difficult, I relax by building LEGO sets, reading, and watching sci-fi movies with our two dogs.
